'It’s like going back to school after the summer holidays,' Hoult, who plays Beast, said about reuniting with Lawrence, who plays Mystique.

'The reality of [the X-Men franchise] is there are lots of characters, so everyone was together for brief periods, but not every day for four months,' he added.

Hoult's Beast character and Lawrence's Mystique character had hints of romance between them as well, in the most recent X-Men trilogy.

Lawrence and Hoult were first cast as Mystique and Beast in 2011's X-Men: First Class, which showcased the first class of mutants to come together under Professor Charles Xavier (James McAvoy), set in the 1960s.

They both returned along with the other main characters in 2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past, was set in the 1970s and essentially erased the first X-Men trilogy that consisted of 2000's X-Men, 2003's X2: X-Men United and 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand.

The third installment, 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse was set in the 1980s, with next month's X-Men: Dark Phoenix, set in the 1990s.

As for Hoult and Lawrence's personal lives, they have both moved on and are in serious relationships.

Hoult has been dating model American model Bryana Holly Bezlaj since 2017 and they welcomed their first child in April 2018.

Lawrence started dating art gallery owner Cooke Maroney in 2018, and they became engaged in February 2019.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is believed to be the last of the X-Men films, now that 20th Century Fox has merged with Disney.

Producer Lauren Shuler Donner confirmed earlier this year that all decisions involving the X-Men films will be up to Disney, but no plans have been revealed yet.

Projections from Pro.BoxOffice.com put X-Men: Dark Phoenix's opening weekend at $47 million, with a projected domestic gross of $113 million.

Hoult's Tolkien earned just $2.4 million in its opening frame last weekend.
