Walmart isn’t the only retail giant that is offering a handsome wage to its store managers.

Costco, the popular wholesale store that is loved by both customers and employees alike, pays its general managers between $48,367 and $180,189, according to Glassdoor.

The average base pay for general managers at Costco stores is $106,836.

Costco employees also receive cash and stock bonuses, profit sharing arrangements, and commission sharing.

These additional benefits come out to an average of $7,778 per year.

Warehouse managers at Costco also fare pretty well. They earn between $52,000 and $146,000 a year.

Assistant general managers, meanwhile, earn about $84,990 a year.

Lower level employees at Costco also earn more than their colleagues at rival companies.

The average salary for a cashier is $14 per hour at Costco, while the national average for cashiers is $11 per hour, according to Salary.com.

The front-end assistants - those who help customers navigate around the store - earn an average of $13 an hour, with a range of $8 to $22.50.

All Costco employees, including those who work part-time, are eligible for benefits.

Last week, Walmart revealed that its store managers make an average of $175,000 a year.

The Arkansas-based company worth $292billion released the wage numbers in a social, economic and governance report on Wednesday.

Walmart said that its full-time hourly workers made an average of $14.26 an hour, the equivalent of an annual salary of $29,660 assuming 40 hours a week.

Walmart has faced criticism for its $11-an-hour starting wage, which is itself a 50 per cent hike from the company's minimum three years ago.

But the company said in its report that it is expanding benefits and investing in employee compensation.

'We’re investing in our associates through wages along with better educational opportunities, benefits and training,' CEO Doug McMillon said in the report.

'And we expanded our parental-leave and adoption policies and raised starting wages again. As of last year, a full time hourly associate in the U.S. who gives birth to a child is eligible for up to 16 weeks of paid time away,' McMillon said.

McMillon's total pay was nearly $24million last year, or about 800 times the average salary of the company's hourly workers.

Walmart store mangers oversee facilities, operations and personnel at individual Walmart stores, according to the company's job descriptions.

The position usually requires at least two years of experience in general management overseeing a staff of at least 20 people.

Walmart employs more than 1.5 million workers in the United States.

The company says women make up 55 per cent of its workforce, while people of color make up 44 per cent.
